I worked at the Radford plant from 1960 till 1979. Starting as a trainee in machine shop on the Non-Current spares section Working under Mr Joe Waite and Sid Wilday as my Foreman. On finishing traineeship at age of 21 I was transferred to the Tool & Cutter Grinding Department 1966-1979. The photo shows nearly all the tool & cutter grinding staff. A great bunch of highly skilled men all prepared to show and train us youngsters. Some good characters from 1965 -1979. I still have an interest in Triumph matters as I own a 1972 TR6 and member of TR Register Coventry.

Sales Manager (Export) c1930'sPhotoUpdate: Ben Mason, was one of my bosses when I did my apprenticeship at Jaguar. When at Standard, Ben was responsible for Home AND Export sales and as SS used so much Standard componentry for their cars, William Lyons offered him the Export Sales position at Jaguar after WW2. Ben was a truly great character. Brought up in an orphanage, he attended night school and was fluent in at least five European languages - albeit with quite a strong Coventry accent! He also developed his own version of condensed shorthand to reply to his daily dictation. I was working in his office one day on a confidential issue and overheard him dictating to his secretary. A consummate AmDram performer, he dictated his replies in various accents and had Joyce Batt almost wetting herself with laughter. She later told me this was effectively a daily occurrence. I worked at Standard from 1950, the first five years on engine assembly then after redundancy a further five years in the body assembly shop. The Herald project was a bit 'hush hush' and revolutionary, and we were quite excited trying to sneak a preview.

I worked in 21 shop fitting headlinings, working on 2000's, 2.5 pi's and Dolomites, I worked there from 1974 till 1978, the bodies came into 21 shop, already painted, on a constant procession of artic lorries up and down the M6 from Halewood, they said it was the world's longest track. Also worked in rocket range and Herald paint and trim. They were happy days.

My name is Philip Moore and my first job on leaving school (without qualifications) was as an office junior in the Cost Office at Canley in June of 1963.The department was run by Manager Dick Moore (very strict but well respected man) and my Section Leader was Ralf Lawrence who seemed to know absolutely every company part number by heart! John worked for 18 years at BTH Coventry as a machine operator, he then spent another 11 years at the Standard Motor Company as a setter and he finally retired after another 11 years as an inspector.

I WORKED on the Triumph Herald from 1959-71.The first ones were built at the Canley plant in April 1959, all components coming in red primer ready for assembly, until the following year when we moved to the Torrington Avenue plant where a new track and paint shop had been built. From then on, until the end of production of the Herald range, all components came in bare metal and after assembly were primed and then transported to Canley for colour spraying and final finish.

I worked at canley with my father peter mulligan in the 70s he worked in the press shop and I worked on the drilling section names I remember Roy Bickley ted Howells jack Heath the formans name was Morris can't remember his surname but a smashing chap he retired and Gordon reay took over the reins.I was the youngest in the shop and was well looked after by all the other lads.when Michael Edwards closed the plant in 1980 a lot of the men never worked again.Some managed to get jobs at the jag and Chrysler but many left the car industry and engineering industry all together

My dad worked on the tracks I think what they called the Dudline.
