A close family friend, Cyril Callow worked at Tile Hill Standard as long as I knew him. He never married and his brothers, one was William Callow of Callow and Maddox, and Lord Mayor of Coventry, are all long gone.Cyril was at Tile Hill during the war and I think he worked first at somewhere near Cash's Lane and said Sir John Black was often seen there. He bought a new Standard 8 about 46/7 then a Vanguard KKV866 in 1951 and later taught me to drive in it.He passed away at my parents house in July 1965 after a massive heart attack. He would have been 61. He was a quiet, helpful chap, who enjoyed taking his caravan on holidays, usually with my parents and myself. Still fondly remembered.

My dad Fred worked at Standard Triumph, although I'm not sure which department or when he started. He sadly died in February 1977 while he was still employed at the Standard.We have found he worked at Allesley Service Dept. This building still exists (along the A45). ED

My father started as an apprentice at Canley in c 1936/7. At the outbreak of war he was transferred to the engine (gear box?) plant in Malvern before he was conscripted in 1943. On returning in 1947 he worked for Massey Ferguson for the next 35 years.

Charlie spent most of his married life living at 63 Walsall Street, Canley Coventry.Charlie was a judo instructor at his judo club in Coventry. He trained up police officers on Saturday mornings.His Mother Lavinia also used to work at the Triumph in the canteen.

Press Shop. He started as a young man at Armstrong Whitworth Aircraft Ltd in Baginton before moving on to Standard Triumph in 1962, where he worked for 17 years. "It was a great factory to work at. The relationship between the men was fantastic. There were 17,000 on site and we always had annual events which were enjoyed by everybody."My father was a shop steward on the track for 17 years until the closure of the factory. He was a big union man and was on the committee of the Standard Club until his health deteriorated in 2012. Sadly he passed away in September 2013 aged 90

Joined Standard Motors in January 1962 as an office Junior in the Benevolent office, Ivy Cottage, Canley. The boss was 'Ray' (H.N.) Haworth.) worked with Joan Lunt and Mary Knight. From there I joined the Pensions Department on the ground floor of Ivy Cottage, the boss was Ron Sowersby. The next move was Fletch South to the Home Sales Department, the team leader was Jill Davies (she married 'Bomber ' Evans who played for Coventry Rugby Club). After that it was back to Canley where I worked in the Accounts Department, the boss was Ted Cannings. After that I went into the Drawing Office at Canley, (it was situated behind No 21 Shop). I reported to Ernie King. This was my first secretarial roll. My final move was to the Kremlin at Fletch North, where I became secretary to Mike Allison the Quality Facilities Manager. He was a very interesting man, his passion was the MG. He wrote quite a few books on the subject. One of them titled 'The Magic of the MG'. In the mid-1970s I took voluntary redundancy. Very Happy Days.

Jack first worked at Tippins in Bodmin Road and then worked at the Humber. He then worked for the Standard Motor Company, and was for many years on the track on the night shift, until he was made redundant. He then worked for the Parks and Leisure department of the Coventry Council for seven years, until his retirement in 1991.
